GLENDALE, CA. The Adams Hill Neighborhood Association will hold a reception Saturday March 18, 2023 to showcase the art exhibit featured in the Adams Square Mini Park at 1020 E. Palmer Avenue.
The art of Cat Chiu Phillips, on display until March 31, evokes the vital relationship between sustainability, conservation and memory by repurposing film slides.
ReCollect was inspired by Phillips’ childhood wonderment and fascination with the play between light and color found in the paper lanterns, or paroles of her native Manila, Philippines.
“I’m passionate about making; it’s what drives me with everything. Creating, teaching, making, looking for materials – that for me is my passion. It’s the passion of creating art, and the passion of connecting people through my work,” said Phillips.
Guests can RSVP to AdamsHillEvents@gmail.com. The schedule for this event is as follows:
BACKGROUND INFORMATION:
Adams Hill Neighborhood: Adams Hill is unusual in Glendale as it bears a physical resemblance to the densely built up, hilly neighborhoods of Los Angeles that surround it, such as Silverlake and Mount Washington. It is bordered on the east and south sides by Los Angeles and is often described as Glendale’s most eclectic neighborhood.
States Jeremy Aluma, chair of the events organizing committee: “We want to celebrate the talents of our local artists, draw people to our neighborhood and foster community.”
Adams Square Mini Park:
The Adams Square Mini Park at 1020 E. Palmer was opened in 2007 by the City of Glendale in an effort to create a green space in the center of the Adams Square business district for the densely populated surrounding neighborhood. The park incorporates a historic Streamline Moderne Gas Station building which has been a community fixture since 1936. This gas station structure is now a designated historic landmark maintained by Glendale Community Services and Parks. It has been adapted for reuse as an art exhibition space curated by the Glendale Arts & Culture Commission.
Adams Hill Neighborhood Association:
AHNA is a volunteer non-profit 501(c)4 organization serving the residents and merchants of the Adams Hill neighborhood in Glendale. Further information is available at www.adamshill.org, IG: @adamshillglendale, Twitter @AdamsHillCA and Facebook @adamshillneighborhoodassociation. #AdamsHillArtsFest
This event is free and open to the public. Parking in Adams Hill is limited so ride-sharing, walking and biking are encouraged.
